What’s the Problem With DIY Roofing?

Jun 07, 2021

Maybe you notice a missing shingle on your roof. Or perhaps there’s a small amount of water leaking into your attic every time it rains.

Regardless of the problem you’re facing, you’re likely to have one question on your mind: can I repair it myself?

While this sounds like a great way to save time and money, there are many risks associated with heading down this path. Here are just a few of the problems with DIY roofing:

•    Safety: Above all else, it’s dangerous to climb on your roof unless you know exactly what you’re doing. There’s never a good time to put your health and well-being at risk.

•    You may not fix the problem: Even if you know what’s causing you trouble, there’s no guarantee that you’ll fix it in the appropriate manner.

•    You could make it worse: You have the best intentions, but since you don’t know what you’re doing you could cause more harm than good.

These are just a handful of the many reasons why DIY roofing isn’t generally a good idea. Unless you have experience and knowledge of how to address your problem, it’s best to consult with a professional.
